Consuming services in .NET by example

0% of 2 hours and 40 minutes completed.

In this course, we will be taking three different approaches to consuming web services using the .NET Framework and C#. In each scenario, we will explore a publicly available web service and create a small application that utilizes the service in a fun way. More specifically, we will see how to leverage classes such as WebClient and HttpClient in our existing applications. We will also make use of the "Add Service Reference" feature in Visual Studio to generate service clients for us automatically.

After completing this course, you will be able to:

  • Make simple web requests using WebClient
  • Parse XML responses with LINQ to XML
  • Use HttpClient to make asynchronous service requests
  • Serialize JSON responses into .NET objects using JSON .NET
  • Add custom behaviors to WCF Service clients
  • Generate service clients to SOAP Services in your projects
  • Create your own clients for 3rd party APIs
  • Associate API key credentials to your API calls
